SFF imprint Abaddon Books to run open submissions month ahead of 10 year celebrations in 2015

\"abaddon\"

To mark the occasion of our tenth anniversary Abaddon Books is once again opening its submission process and inviting new authors to help them to shape their next shared world with an original new novella.

Since its initial conception in 2005 Abaddon Books has published over 100 books, alongside a robust eBook catalogue, set in 14 original “shared world” settings by a diverse collection of new and established talents. Previous contributors to the list include New York Times bestselling authors Una McCormack and James Lovegrove; cult pulp writers Chuck Wendig and Al Ewing; breakthrough talent Rebecca Levene; and best-selling fantasy author Adrian Tchaikovsky.

Between January 15th and February 15th 2015 new and aspiring authors are invited to submit a 150 word synopsis, 1000 word chapter-by-chapter breakdown and a 2000 word excerpt for consideration. The last open submission month at Abaddon Books produced two fantastic new authors: E. E. Richardson whose follow up novel to her 2013 Ritual Crimes novella publishes Spring 2015 and Malcolm Cross whose original novella Orbital Decay was collected into the most recent Afterblight omnibus collection, andwhose new Military SF series for Abaddon Books starts in 2015.

The new world and author will be revealed via a small teaser sample in Abaddon X, a special anniversary publication of Abaddon Books publishing highlights, which will be distributed at Abaddon Books’ 10 year celebration party in London in summer 2015. The final novella will then be scheduled to publish for winter 2015.

Abaddon Books Commissioning Editor David Thomas Moore on this next step for Abaddon Books:
Can it be ten years already? Abaddon Books is one of the most exciting imprints in the midlist today: punky, riskytaking and innovative. We’ve brought some of the best, brightest and most challenging new names onto the market, and we’re keen to keep on in that vein. Our last open month yielded terrific results, from some breathtakingly creative, passionate authors, and I’m confident we’ll double the numbers – and top the quality of submissions – this time. I look forward to how hard it’s going to be choosing between them.
