Berliner Weisse – High Five 2xLP/ CD (Spirit Of The Streets)

\"Berliner\"

Over the last couple of years Berliner Weisse have been steadily making a name for themselves, playing in bigger and bigger halls and so this fourth album of theirs will be hotly anticipated by many. The good news is that this doesn\’t disappoint in any way. Utilising a sound originating from bands such as Troopers or Loikaemie, Berliner Weisse take that template to pieces and rebuild it completely, and in doing so have created a very distinct and unique style. Opener \”Die Messer Sind Gewetzt\” (The knives are out) sets the tone for the rest of the album, a hard rocking streetpunk tune driven by Toifel\’s gravel-chewing vocals. But if this song is a straight forward punk anthem, Berliner Weisse keep you engaged by dropping unexpected moments into the mix here and there, not afraid to use acoustic guitars, string sections, pianos or female vocals when needed. The musicianship is top notch, with lead guitar licks and bass runs dropping in all over the place. The overall effect means that you can either kick back and enjoy their streetpunk party or you can sit and listen, concentarting on all of the elements that come together to build this record. You can tell they\’ve put a lot of thought into these songs and all their hard work has paid off – this is a top quality record. High five lads! Tom Chapman
