The Take – Live For Tonight (Demons Run Amok)

This New York trio have been treading the boards for a few years now, and this new five song collection is a nice, rude boot in the face to remind you that they’re still alive and kicking. Take influences from the classic American Oi! style (think Forced Reality, The Bruisers), with some stomping glam influences and the straight-up rock of Rose Tattoo and you have yourself a potent street-rock mix. Add to that some hardcore, rock-solid beats, breakdowns and the short and sweet FU to build a killer overall picture.

There is a nice variety of songwriting on display. You can channel your inner Misfits on the banging track Comfort Crisis with its woah-ooh singalong chorus, or sit back and enjoy a rock-solid cover of Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting) that I can add to my collection of covers of this Elton John classic. Scotty Roberts has a great voice and it suits the genre perfectly – carrying the songs with aggression and melody. A top collection of songs that hopefully will tide us over until the next album.
