In 2003, garage rock hillbillies Ten Benson recorded their “greatest hits” live for Must… Destroy!! Records. The Danger of Deaf compact disc was a must-have in my bedroom full of Strongbow, shit cocaine and 1980s jazz mags. Now, the grimy album has had the full vinyl treatment for the first time courtesy of Drastic Plastic Records. Only available via the U.S. of A, this ageing bellend sat patiently chain-smoking on the doorstep in anticipation for the postman. Hey, this reviewing lark isn’t all about freebies.
Pressed on yellow plastic and with artwork inners faithful to the string vest and engine oiled body period, does this one take “live best of” record still cut the mustard? Of course it fucking does! These versions of the songs were always better than the proper studio recordings in my opinion; faster, rawer and dripping with sleaze. 15 years later and it’s still (not so) young, dumb and full of cum.
One Way Ticket, Tits, Black Snow, Rock Cottage – all stone cold swampy classics. The vinyl is limited so get on it if you want in. After a millionth line-up change, Ten Benson are still alive with a recent show supporting The Godfathers at The 100 Club in London. Now, wouldn’t it be great if we were treated to some new gems on record? Chris Teckkam, you know what to do! Ginge Knievil
