Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Heads to the Upside Down In Stranger Things Crossover.

The Heroes in a Half Shell are headed for the Upside Down in a Stranger Things crossover series from IDW and Dark Horse Comics.

In epic comic book news, the Heroes in a Half Shell are officially headed to Hawkins, Indiana in a brand-new crossover series by IDW Publishing and Dark Horse Comics. Written by Mapmakers scribe Cameron Chittock and featuring both interior and main cover art by returning Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles artist Fero Pe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Stranger Things #1 is slated to arrive in stores on July 12.

In the press release announcing the title, Chittock said of the series, “I’ve loved the Ninja Turtles for quite literally as long as I can remember, and part of the brilliant alchemy of Stranger Things is that, ever since that first binge, it’s felt like it’s always been there.” Chittock regarded this as a testament to each franchise’s respective creators’ storytelling prowess before describing the culmination of the two properties as a “surreal thrill.”

“For the art on this project, I wanted to do something unique, inspired by the era when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were created and the setting of the Stranger Things series,” Pe said regarding his artistic direction for the title. “It’s a style close to the first Turtles comics from Mirage. I hope that the fans of both worlds enjoy it very much!”

While Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Stranger Things marks the first comic book crossover for the latter franchise despite having already made its way into the likes of Magic: The Gathering as a Secret Lair Drop, it is just the latest in a long line of crossovers for the heroes of the Splinter Clan. The upcoming release will in fact see the Turtles starring in two concurrently running titles, as they are also in the middle of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Street Fighter crossover comic book series by writer Paul Allor and artist Ariel Medel.

Apart from the crossover, fans of both franchises are also looking forward to each of their respective next entries on the big and small screens. For the Heroes in a Half Shell, that will be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, a new animated feature film slated to arrive in theaters on August 4. Stranger Things fans will have to wait a bit longer for the series’ fifth and final season, however, which was supposed to begin production this summer before it was put on pause due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America Strike.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Stranger Things #1 is written by Cameron Chittock with art and main cover art by Fero Pe, and variant cover arts courtesy of Jorge Corona, Jenn Woodall, and Adam Gorham. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Stranger Things #1 goes on sale July 12 from IDW Publishing and Dark Horse Comics.
