Quick Stops: Anecdotes From The Annals Of The Askewniverse – Kevin Smith, Jeremy Simser, Phillip Hester, Ande Parks, Tango & Ahmed Raafat (Dark Horse Comics)

First things first, let’s get the disclaimer out of the way. If you’re not down with Dante and Randal, haven’t damn near peed yourself laughing at Jay and Silent Bob and don’t know who Holden McNeil is, then you might want to move along as there’s nothing for you to see here. But, if you worship at the altar of the Mighty Kevin Smith and his wonderfully welcoming geek-a-rific take on life, the universe and everything then Quick Stops might just be your new favourite book ever. End of story. Full stop.

Comprised of four brief interludes that fill in some of the blanks in the Askewniverse (such as, what was Holden talking about at convention before Jay and Silent Bill… Sorry Bob, and sorry Kevin for stealing your schtick, rolled up in ‘Jay and Silent Bob: Reboot and what Elias was sort of doing between Clerks II and III) that are built around Smith’s instantly relatable, deliriously funny dialogue and razor sharp characterisation and observation and the punchy, fast flowing monochrome art of his assembled rogues gallery of artists, Quick Stops is the Kevin Smith portmanteau that you never knew you wanted, but have always needed. And if, like me, the wait between his movies is just way too much to bear, then this is the Kevin Smith fix that’ll brighten your day, week, month and year… Tim Cundle
