Millencolin – True Brew (Epitaph)
It’s got to be a decade or so since I last listened to Millencolin, and for the life of me I can’t figure out, or remember, why and after spinning ‘True Brew’ all afternoon I feel like a complete schmuck. Why? Because this record is a melodic punk rock beast, rammed full of catchy-as –syphilis-in-an-unlicensed-brothel sing-a-long anthems, amphetamine fuelled riffs and a rhythm section that could take on and batter the hell out of Apollo Creed and Rocky Balboa at the same time. ‘True Brew’ has reminded me just how good these guys were, are, and on the strength of this, will always be. Melody-core, pop punk, punk rock, call it what you will, it honestly and truly doesn’t get much better than this and that’s a fact. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. Ten years? Damn, what was I thinking? Absolutely essential… Tim Mass Movement
