I Fight Bears – Gold – Digital Download (Self)

Yes it’s the Spandau Ballet song, which the South Wales Metallers debuted at the Bridgend Tattoo Shop Xmas party last year (along with an immense cover of Dio’s ‘Holy Diver’), and it sounds exactly how you imagine it would. Beefed up riffage, a veritable orgy of string pinching and noodly guitar solos, triggered drums and duel clean/larynx scraping vocals drag the song kicking and screaming into the 00’s, although it must be said the opening verse/keyboard segment is extremely faithful to the original. Kudos to IFB for managing to pull this off without turning the whole thing into a novelty cover. It’s even got the thumbs up from Gary Kemp himself. For fans of Killswitch Engage, Parkway Drive, While She Sleeps etc. Ian Pickens
