Haddon Hall: When David Invented Bowie – Néjib (Self Made Hero)

Spread the love

French-Tunisian artist Néjib’s colourful graphic novel depicts Bowie’s formative years in the Bohemian commune of Haddon Hall where he was to write many of the songs that went on to form ‘The Man Who Sold The World’ and the core of both ‘Ziggy Stardust’ and ‘Hunky Dory’.Néjib uses the building of Haddon Hall itself to narrate the story accompanied by stylised drawings bursting with psychedelic vibrancy and a cast of characters including Bowie’s wife Angie, Syd Barrett, Marc Bolan, John Lennon, Tony Visconti and the Stooges. There’s a friendly warmth to ‘Haddon Hall’, and absorbing both the text and graphics left me with a smile on my face. I’m sure Ziggy would approve. Conan Troutman
