The Chuck Norris Experiment – Shortcuts (No Balls Records)

Okay, I admit it. I too have had moments where the need for instant musical satisfaction has been craved. Like a millennial growing up in the social media age, a shuffle button on a playlist can seem appealing. I’ve had my fill now… NEXT! Even more than ten songs on an album by one band can sometimes seem daunting. Luckily, my expeditious desire is only fleeting, and thanks to The Chuck Norris Experiment via Shortcuts, I now have a rapid remedy should that need arise. Y’see, those Swedish purveyors of all things awesome in the world of rock ‘n’ roll have gone and recorded ten songs in twelve minutes. Chuck Ransom has declared it a “between albums album” and there’s no denying that whether it be one minute or three, the five Chucks can deliver whatever the time restraints.

“Everybody smells of fake” proclaims Mr. Ransom on Back It Up. Now, CNE are a band who’ve lived and breathed rock ‘n’ roll over countless releases and over many a mile on the road, so they’re perfectly positioned to call out any counterfeit would-be punks. There’s no time to catch your breath in between tracks and that’s kinda the point. Wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am – HAVE IT!

A lot of bands will look on in disgust; frustrated that CNE have gone and produced a short player to rival their long player. There was also a chance that this album could’ve sounded disjointed and the songs labelled as off-cuts. That is not the case. Razor blade guitars? Check. Chest pumping drums? Check. Chuck Ransom’s trademark raspy growl? Check. All the components are there for a short, sharp and sweet cacophony of fast aural pleasure. This is no novelty idea; The Chuck Norris Experiment have pulled it out of the bag.

The album will be No Balls Records’ 100th release and the German label are offering strictly limited 7 inch, CD and cassette options. You seriously don’t wanna get caught short amid the melee on 13th September. Chuck Me, it ain’t half good! Ginge Knievil
