What’s the greatest movie in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise so far?
If you said ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ then firstly congratulations on having superb taste, but secondly run down to your local comic book supplier immediately and grab Marvel’s ‘The Sith And The Skywalker’. Collecting ‘Star Wars’ (2020) #42-45, as well as material from ‘Star Wars: Revelations’ (2023) #1 and ‘Free Comic Book Day 2024: Star Wars’, Charles Soule is at it again, as he dives headlong into a chaotic time for the rebellion. Luke has just faced off with Dad in the legendary ‘Empire…’ ending and is indulging himself in further Jedi training while he heals on the planet Christophsis.
Along the way he learns the powers of the fabled kyber crystals and there uses for both bad and good. Knowing that he will have to face Darth Vader again one day, the knowledge he needs to defeat the dark lord may just reside with another Sith. Using the power of the crystals, Luke quickly finds himself in over his head and in a battle that will require all of his Jedi training and more just to survive. In the meantime, Lando Calrissian is brought before the Rebel Alliance judiciary system on a charge of treason, that even his friends Princess Leia and Chewbacca find hard to defend. It seems that in an attempt to rescue his friend Lobot, may end up costing him his freedom. But the defiant Lando is rebel hero damnit and he will be respected.
The action is fast and frantic with Soule’s wing man Madibek Musabekov and Rachelle Rosenberg, doing a stellar job in making an already familiar world pop off the page and Soule, who’s work has long been lauded here at Mass Movement HQ is brave in his choice of storylines and isn’t afraid to re-evaluate how we look at beloved characters. Another exceptional addition to the ‘Star Wars’ universe.
Nothing in life is guaranteed except this. When you see the words Marvel, Soule and ‘Star Wars’ on a book, you are in for a serious ride… Chris Andrews.
