SPY – Seen Enough EP (Closed Casket Activities)

Sometimes, you see an album cover, clock the lengths of the songs, and you already know what you’re in for. Seen Enough by Spy is one of those records. A black-and-white photo of a headlight cutting through mist. with the band’s name and album title in red font in the upper left corner. This is no nonsense, let’s get straight to it EP that hits hard and hits fast.

Spy formed in 2019, right before the pandemic. Did the global nightmare influence this record? Did the band have some sort of collective hateful epiphany? Maybe they just despise us all? I may never know.  What I do know is that their debut is a vicious slab of pure hatred. And that’s great.

Most albums reveal their weaker tracks over time. Not this one. With six songs and the longest clocking in at 2:01, Seen Enough is all killer, no filler—a relentless gut punch from start to finish. Promo blurbs claim the band leans toward Poison Idea-style hardcore rather than a metallic sound. As a massive Poison Idea fan, I didn’t really hear it. The production is too crisp, and I definitely picked up metallic influences. But honestly? Who cares. Spy has created a rare hybrid beast, that’s impossible to pin down. Doing this on your debut record ?  Usually that’s a sign of greatness.

If you like your music extreme, hateful, and straight to the point, step inside. Spy have such sights to show you…

Who should check it out:

Anyone who likes really fast songs that make you want to quit your job in a blaze of glory.

Who should skip it:

No one. But if loud, furious music isn’t your thing, you’re in the wrong neighborhood anyway.

Tracks to skip:

None. The whole record is under 10 minutes, and every second is worth it.

Song to annoy your mom with:

Play the entire album. It’s 9 minutes and 37 seconds of pure auditory violence. Poor mom.

Song to annoy the neighbor with:

Void of Passion. Longer runtime. Evil bassline intro. Have fun.
