Various Artists – The Extermination Volume III (Flatspot Records)

\"theexterminationcompilation_iii_web\"

There was a time when HC labels routinely issued label compilations to highlight and introduce the scene, and the folks in it, to their bands. While, for the most part, the HC compilation has become a thing of the past, those of us old enough to remember a time when the scene was awash with them look back to those days with genuine fondness, as we were introduced to many of the bands who went on to become staple parts of our musical diets thanks to the many compilations we readily, and hungrily, devoured. So, Flatspot Records have decided to revive the tradition in order to let the world (and by world, I mean us folks in the HC scene) know all about their, and other, bands and as calling cards for all of the featured acts go, they don’t get much better than The Extermination Volume III. From the opening barrage of Terror, through to old school Boston and NYHC stylings of Manipulate, Countdown, DC Disorder and Piece By Piece, and the newer, heavier and hard hitting offerings from  Take Offense, Disgrace, Higher Power and the other bands venting their spleen on it, The Extermination Volume III is a rollercoaster Hardcore ride that features some of the best new and already established HC bands that I’ve heard in a while, and could easily hold it’s high in the company of some of the legendary (Where the Wild Things Are and New York Hardcore : The Way It Is, I’m looking your way) compilations from back in the day. Don’t believe me? Check it out for yourself. You’ll be glad that you did… Tim Cundle
