It’s been two decades and some change since I last crossed paths with The Suicide Machines, which was, if memory serves, sometime around the release of Battle Hymns  a record that, coincidentally, I reviewed for Mass Movement way back in our formative days when we were still a print zine. And you know what? Before I did a little digging, I had absolutely no idea what they’d been up to the intervening twenty two years.

Turns out they had spell on SideOneDummy before splitting up, reuniting sometime later to play a bunch of shows and that Revolution Spring is their first album in fifteen or so years. Thing is, listening to this record, it’s almost like no time has passed since I sat down to put pen to paper about Battle Hymns. The Suicide Machines are still churning out their ridiculously catchy, high energy, head-on collision between Pulley and Operation Ivy ska infused pop punk and it still sounds pretty darn awesome.

If you grew up in the nineties punk scene or just love songs filled with heart, drive and passion that you can sing-a-long with in next to no time,  you are going to dig the absolute shit out of this record. I kinda feel bad that me and the Suicide Machines drifted apart and went our separate ways, but then maybe if we had hung out a little longer, I wouldn’t have fallen in love with them all over again.  Welcome home chaps… Tim Cundle
