The Haunting – Decay and Rot (Self)

Underground horror punk seems to be a growing scene. I have run across more and more bands that fall into this category and it’s a wonderful thing. Today’s focus: Pennsylvania band The Haunting. Their album Decay and Rot was sent to me by the band as a way to help in my recovery from Hurricane fucking Michael. I have listened to these songs dozens of times now and I can tell you they have certainly helped my mental state. Upbeat punk rock with dark lyrics, that’s the magic formula. With a vocal sound in between CJ Ramone and Misfits-era Glenn Danzig, these eleven (twelve) songs are superb additions to the genre. The Haunting even manage to make a Screeching Weasel song, Murder in the Brady House, sound good. Note: I hate Screeching Weasel. What I’m trying to say is this is a great album from a great band and if you like horror punk you need to check out The Haunting. Jim Dodge
