The Changeling – Blu-Ray (Second Sight)

A haunted house movie with a difference.

Director Peter Medak’s The Changeling is a classic of the horror genre, originally released in 1980 and starring the inimitable George C. Scott, Trish Van de Vere and Melvyn Douglas in one of his last film roles. Its influence can be seen in any number of more recent films – and most people who saw the original remember the red ball bouncing down the stairs, and the banging sounds that reverberate through the house every morning, not to mention their heartbreaking cause.

George C. Scott plays composer John Russell, whose wife (a cameo from the redoubtable Jean Marsh) and daughter are killed, leading him to seek seclusion in a Seattle mansion to lick his wounds and start composing once more. The mansion is haunted, and as he seeks the cause of the supernatural occurrences, a shattering truth is revealed.

Now, Second Sight are releasing a limited edition (limited to 5,000 copies) 4k Blu-Ray of the movie, along with a host of special features, a poster, a limited edition slipcased cover and even a commemorative pin.

The Special Features are another gem – featuring an audio commentary with director Peter Medak and producer Joel B. Michaels, an interview with Mick Garris about the film, a highly entertaining piece on the true story behind the movie, ‘The House on Cheesman Park’, and more.

If you love horror, especially classic movies of the genre, then you won’t want to miss out on this. Marie O’Regan
