Seeing as Dirt Box Disco are taking a breather from their release schedule this year, that provides the ideal opportunity for DBD guitarist Mr Spunk to flex his other musical wings with a new Spunk Volcano album. Well, subtlety was never what these boys have been about and true to form this new album is unashamedly loud, proud and punk. The Dirt Box Disco comparisons are going to be inevitable seeing as the bands share three members, and whilst tracks such as \”Tattoo\” or \”Together Forever As Ghosts\” could almost be DBD tunes, the overall style here is a lot more hard rockin\’. Spunk and the gang pile you into their clapped out XR3, put their foot to the ground and with tyres smoking and gears crunching take you on their high octane musical tour. Stop off points might include a sweaty UK Subs gig, a smoke-filled Motorhead show or a grimy drug-addled night in CBGB\’s, Spunk Volcano takes elements of these different sounds and puts them through the grinder. Chewed up and spat out with a vengeance, this collection of songs will please the rabid legions of Dirt Box fans and more besides. Tom Chapman
