Social Experiment – Rumours of Our Demise Are Not Greatly Exaggerated (Self)

First time I heard these chaps was a month ago when my band played our final show and they hit the stage just after us. Even though I’ve known Social Experiment’s guitarist Payney for longer than either of us care to remember, I was still more than a little surprised by their full force, teeth rattling, dual vocal, metal tinged, punk rock assault.  I can’t pinpoint what is about them exactly, but the bands that spring to mind while blasting Rumours at full volume are Symbol of Freedom, Sick Of It All, Nausea, Agnostic Front and Discharge, which means that Social Experiment are in damn fine company.

Lyrically, Social Experiment come from a place that’s dear to all of our hearts, ecologically aware, politically somewhat left of the traditional left wing model and supportive of animal and human rights and they’re not afraid to stand behind the courage of their convictions. Payney has proved that there’s still life in the old dog, and he’s finally got a band behind him that can take on the world and stand toe to toe with the best of them. Not too shabby, not too shabby at all… Tim Cundle
