Our Lives in Music… Dead Label

Metallica – Master of Puppets Claire Percival (Drummer) : Master of Puppets is the epitome of Metal albums. Long songs, blistering solos, melodic parts, heavy chugging. It has it all. Every metal writer and musician is influenced by Master of Puppets, either directly or indirectly. It is the most epic album every written. This album changed the world and continues to change the world.

Machine Head – Through the Ashes of Empires – PC: Machine Head changed my life with this album! When I heard it, I knew I wanted to be in a band that played groovy, heavy music! Just listen to the intro to Vim and tell me you don\’t want to be Dave McClain?! There is a version of this album that was released in North Wither and its unreal!

Slipknot – Slipknot PC:  This album started an era for me, where such a mental sound of chaos could be so ground breaking. Slipknot came into the world with what i consider a unique approach and sound that cannot be matched. This is not my most favourite Slipknot album, but it is what made them. Those terrifying masks and that epic sound with violent lyrics, it dawned a great period of musical history.

Soulfly – Prophecy – PC:  All I have to say for this to make sense is ROOOOOTTTTTTSSSSSSSS!!! That Latin beat!!! It’s standing the test of time!!!

Black Sabbath – Black Sabbath – PC: This was the debut album OF metal. The birthplace. Without this album, would any album on this list exist? Would this list exist? Would we exist?

Motorhead – Ace of Spades – PC:  This album and title track will feature in the history of metal music for the rest of time. Lemmy and his legacy have shaped the metal world. The husky tones on this album help you to feel like you’re at the gig! You can smell the beer and sweat as your listening!

System of a Down – Toxicity – PC:  System of a Down cannot and will not be rivalled for their authentic sound and originality. The madness but yet structured journey of this album is incredible. Aerials is a song that has a place in everyone\’s mind. There isn\’t a metal head that doesn\’t know this song!

Pantera – Vulgar Display of Power – PC: This album is a staple in every metal heads diet. Avenged Sevenfold had Walk in their set for I think three years? They used to bring up a member of the audience to join them, that is how huge this album was and is! This is a must have for every metal head. Pantera are amazing, it’s hard to choose one album to include them in this list but Vulgar is certainly influential!!!

Machine Head – The Blackening –  PC:  Machine Head made this list twice, why? Because they are MACHINE FUCKING HEAD. The Blackening is an absolute monster of an album, the album that influenced me as a person and still does today! The Blackening is a thrasterpiece, letting the world know that Machine Head are a band that are here for life. They have continued to spoil us with amazing albums since and I can\’t wait for the next one!!!

Metallica – The Black Album – PC:  Every Metallica album should have made this list. But the Black Album marks a period of time, which is why it is influential. Metallica came out after the first four albums and cut their hair and told the world \”who gives a fuck\” and produced one of the most bad ass albums ever. No, they did not rehash Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning? Why? Because they already existed! Instead they gave us even more amazing music! An album that took them from metal band to mega starts! The stars they are today! The band that reached so many people and influenced so many bands to become what they are! Metallica are the most influential metal band there ever was and ever will be!

Throne of Bones is out now.
