Not Tonight & The Headaches – If You Were Real You\’d Do Your Own Stunts CD (Boss Tuneage)
Damn, if I wanted to get a t-shirt of this album cover it would need to be at least XXXXXL just to fit the band and album name on there, talk about a mouthful! But what a sweet tasting morcel this is. Sugar-coated pop-punk of the highest quality. Think back to the likes of Big Drill Car, Drive or Doughboys. Add the love-gone-wrong lyrics and the whole old school feel is complete. This takes you back to when the pioneers of the genre got the mix of punk rock and the melodies of the Beach Boys right down to a tee, fusing two fingers in the air with pop sensibilities. They have more than one song template though and there is a nice variety of styles on here, from speedier tunes to rocking numbers, with touches of streetpunk thrown in for good measure. It\’s all nothing new, but it\’s a great style that will never lose its appeal, and NTATH are already on their second album proving themselves to be experts of the genre. Tom Chapman
