Nile – What Should Not Be Unearthed CD (Nuclear Blast)
Thankfully this is exactly what you’d expect from Nile. Crushingly powerful, totally aggressive, full onslaught… death fuckin’ metal! Spare no quarter, don’t pull in the reigns; fortunately the South Carolinians have not substituted technicality over brutality and not an inch of harshness has been lost on this, their eighth studio release. What can be said that has already not been bought up regarding these purveyors of premiere death, except nothing much has changed, but do any of us really want that? Demonic production carries the quartet and the essence of relentless pounding flows freely throughout the ten tracks present. From the off, album opener ‘Call To Destruction’ hammers from the speakers and Nile are taking no prisoners. The savagery continues until the final blast beats, and heavy-duty guitar of ‘To Walk Forth From Flames Unscathed’ rolls mercilessly from the stereo. Pleasingly for all old school devotes the ancient Egyptian themes and near Eastern mysticism are present during ‘In The Name Of Amun’ and ‘Ushabti Reanimator’, Nile still remain rooted within their beginnings. What the band offers, that others do not, is consistent quality and lashings of technicality, brutally submerged in a barrage of fear-provoking heaviness. Mark Freebase
