Nathan Gray – Working Title (End Hits)

Like most scene folks, when I hear the name Nathan Gray, I automatically think of Boysetsfire. Having fronted the bruising, politically driven band since their inception sometime in the early nineties, Nathan Gray has earned his punk rock stripes and Hardcore wings a hundred times over.

However, there comes a time in everyone’s life when they need to do something different, to step out of the shadows and be who they are, free of, and unfettered by, the identity that they world has created for them and Working Title is the sound of Nathan Gray seizing the moment and sharing who he is both musically, and as individual, with the world.

With its feet planted firmly in blue collar, drenched in Americana rock and roll rather than straight up Hardcore, Working Title is an emotionally charged, incredibly melodic and infectious record that owes as much to early Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as it does to DC’s Revolution Summer.

Inspiring and uplifting, Gray’s impassioned song-writing gives the album a sense of urgency that reaches out to draw the listener in. More a collection of intimate bar stool stories given voice and shared delicate secrets than the usual call to arms that Gray is more commonly associated with, Working Title is a fierce and beguiling statement of intent that proves that there’s far more to life than Hardcore. Welcome to the beginning of something wonderful…  Tim Cundle
