Killer Hearts – Killer Hearts E.P. (Spaghetty Town Records)

Houston, we have a problem… and it comes in the shape of four reprobates who call themselves Killer Hearts. Boasting the tightest pants this side of Mötley Crüe, these bastard sons of Stiv Bators have an attitude to match and they’re taking no prisoners on their debut release for the ever awesome Spaghetty Town Records.

It’s a rip-roaring start to proceedings with Do Your Thing; a great freewheeling rock ‘n’ roll tune with a fleeting sax that lies somewhere between The Saints and Hanoi Rocks. It’s all “whoa, whoa, c’mon” and there’s fuck all wrong with that. Midnight Lucifer follows with a Street Walkin’ Cheetahs vibe and Annihilation boasts “ain’t nothing gonna stop me now.” I believe you, Killer Hearts. I believe you.

Bringing up the rear is Killed by Volume, and if the promo video is to be trusted then Killer Hearts have got themselves a bona fide rock ‘n’ roll frontman in Jaret Barger. It’s all spit and gyration which plays off Brandon Barger’s fierce axe work.

If this EP were to come with a scratch ‘n’ sniff option, then it would smell of beer, fags and no regrets whatso-fucking-ever. With its dry production there’s a lot of Young Loud and Snotty, and I can get behind that. With just 100 pressings on 7”, get amongst things pretty soon if you want a piece of the action. Keep a close eye on Killer Hearts, folks. These Texans may well explode. Ginge Knievil
