You know that saying about not missing something until it’s gone? That’s pretty much the story of my relationship with Japanische Kampfhorspiele.  For some reason, when they parted ways with Bastardized a decade or so ago, they completely fell off my musical radar. Which is a damn shame, as listening to Back To Ze Roots reminded me how I dug, and still dig, these titans of the Grind scene. Blisteringly fast, Japanische Kampfhorspiele are one of those all too rare devastatingly brutal and technical Hardcore behemoths who write memorable tunes. And not just any tunes, no sir. This lot’s songs burrow into your brain, nest inside your cerebellum and take up permanent residence, playing over and over and over again on a grind fuelled perpetual loop. Imagine if Extreme Noise Terror had been part of the original Morrisound scene and were fronted by Dani Filth and Chris Barnes and you’ll have a pretty good idea were Japanische Kampfhorspiele are coming from.
