Deathtraps – Stole Your Rock \’n\’ Roll (Spirit of Disaster Records)

Third full length release from this prolific South Wales Action Rock trio and it’s a bit of a banger. Kicking things off with a categorical statement of intent in Let’s Fall Out of Love it’s a jugular slicing, speedy affair with more hooks than a pirate’s convention. Think Electric Frankenstein, Hip Priests, Chuck Norris Experiment and you’re in the right territory, although there’s also a nod to Motorhead/DOA on Bloodshots and the ghost of early Turbonegro on several tracks, most notably the title track (which is guaranteed to end up as a live sing-along favourite) and the acerbic Backstabbing for Beginners. A luvverly bit of dirty, distorted bass from former Flyscreen four string plucker Fraser Munro kicks off ‘Too Fast To Last’ before two ex Viva Knievels/Sick Livers in the form of Veej and Matty storm in with some righteous beats and chainsaw guitar fuzz.  We get an insight in the dirty minds of the teenage Deathtraps on their mid paced paean to the first lady of Rock N Roll Joan Jett before the trio return to the speedy scuzz rock of  Patron Saint of Emptiness –  a strong finish to a strong album. Take a bow gents.   Ian Pickens
