DCA – Forge (BDHW Records)

If you were to look up the word brutal in the dictionary, don’t be surprised if you see a picture of DCA grinning back at you accompanied by a corresponding entry that simply reads “these guys”. Likewise, if you were to type ‘beatdown’ into whichever search engine you use (I prefer the Googles, it keeps things simple and I don’t really care if the government are spying on me), then the chances are, that the first few hundred answers you get will pretty say the same thing; DCA. And that boys and girls is because that’s exactly what DCA does. They play brutal, pounding beatdown driven metalcore that smashes your head in over and over again and I fear that if I listen to this record too much, it’d be like going a round or two with Mike Tyson and I’d almost certainly end up with a traumatic brain injury. That doesn’t mean that Forge isn’t a great record, it absolutely is, but like almost all of the good things in life, too much of it is almost certainly detrimental to your health. However, if you’re a braver soul than I and if you’re young enough to be able to take a damn good kicking, get back on your feet and, with a shit eating grin plastered all over your chops, ask “Please sir, may I have another” then Forge is definitely the record for you. And if these chaps come to your town to play, do yourself a favour and spend the month before they hit the stage practising your spin kicks and all sorts of deadly martial arts, because both are going to come in handy when DCA plug in…  Tim Cundle
