Brothers of the Sonic Cloth – S/T CD (Neurot Recordings)
The North Western trio featuring TAD’s eponymous frontman produce a suitably heavy debut offering of Doom infused Sludge, with an underlying punk rawness. Barely picking itself up from a snail’s pace, these seven tracks sound like a dying Brachiosaurus dragging its carcass across the arid plains of Jurassic North America. Not quite in the same territory as either Sleep or Neurosis (although they share some of the more introspective and eclectic aural excursions of their label mates), BOTSC will no doubt appeal to the same fans. Mixed by the legendary Billy Anderson (High on Fire, Sleep, etc.) so the sound quality is pretty damn fine too. Ian Pickens
