Apophys – Prime Incursion (Metal Blade)
The intellect of man, and the fierce killer instinct of a predator. Death metal cannot be anymore lethal. We all know when science and brutality merge there will be a shortage of bodybags. ‘Prime Incursion’ doesn’t waste any time with melancholic or orchestral intros; it’s all guns blazing, all the time. It is just amazing to hear that, as the energy level shows no signs of letting up, there’s always room for well thought-out crazy twists. It makes these heavy slabs of metal sound fresh, and gives every song its distinctive face. The sci-fi inspired lyrics also offer a breath of fresh air. Martijn Welzen
