A Mars base… just outside Neath?

Sergeant Andy Davidson takes the lead in this month’s Torchwood adventure, a ‘Hercule Poirot in space’ mystery starring Tom Price, perhaps not as far from home as you might expect.

Torchwood: Red Base is now available to own as a collector’s edition CD at £10.99 or on download from the Big Finish website at £8.99.

Mars is the next giant leap for mankind. Starr Base is the first small step. A practice Mars base has been set up in a quarry in Neath, just off the A474. Its aim is to see if humanity can survive on the red planet.

The problem is that the crew are dying. The survivors are terrified, paranoid, and wondering if something alien has got inside Starr Base. Sgt Andy Davidson has come to find out what’s gone wrong.

Torchwood: Red Base also stars Game of Thrones’ Kae Alexander, Casualty’s Rakie Ayola and Torchwood first-timers, Ronak Patani and Jeremy Ang Jones.

Writer James Goss said: “I remember reading a thing about how they\’re planning to create a practice Mars base and I thought, ‘Wouldn\’t it be brilliant if that ended up being in some quarry in Neath?’ Then I thought, ‘Well, who\’s going to turn up and investigate?’ Captain Jack? No. Ianto Jones? No. And I ran through the list, and then… oh yes!”

“This story is vaguely based on the failed reality show, Eden, which featured a lot of people on a peninsula in Scotland who spent an entire year thinking they were in a TV show. What they didn\’t realise was that the broadcaster had pulled the plug after the first two episodes.”

Actor Tom Price added: “And while Torchwood, the TV show, may have had the plug pulled on it ten years ago, still we march on. Here we are, the Big Finish Torchwood fundamentalists.

“I\’ve really, really, genuinely loved this one. It\’s so much fun. It\’s brilliantly written. The characters are fantastic. The idea is brilliant. It\’s so good. I love it so much.”
