Gentlemans Pistols – Hustler’s Row CD (Nuclear Blast Records)
Third outing for the kings of retro rock, and their first for new label Nuclear Blast. The big question is have they been able to keep up the momentum and quality displayed on the impressive ‘At Her Majesty’s Pleasure’? The answer is a resounding YES. Taking their musical cues from the same source as their two previous albums (Free, Thin Lizzy, UFO, Black Sabbath etc.) whilst retaining a freshness and contemporary element to their sound. There’s a few new twists to the mix, particularly on new single ‘Devil’s Advocate On Call’ on which they display the deliciously booze soaked boogie of AC/DC with an uncanny Eagles of Death Metal style vocal performance from James Atkinson, and on the elegant title track – a Zeppelin-esque, folk rock, mini masterpiece. A consistently strong collection of songs with maximum Earworm potential. Ian Pickens
