Headless Kross – Volumes

Headless Kross – Volumes CD (Black Bow Records)
Three tracks covering 45 minutes – yep its Doom with a psychedelic twist from this Glasgow trio. Given the press release description and the fact that HK are a trio I was expecting something along the lines of Elder, and there are some similarities, but HK go for a more ‘immersive’ sound than the Boston trio. The riffs are monolithic slabs of heaviness with some suitably retro guitar noodling over the top, a bit like a less proggy Ancestors. Good to see the UK turning out more of this stuff, along with Bossk, Conan and Gonga, Headless Kross are keeping the UK at the forefront of the Stoner/Doom/Sludge scene. Ian Pickens
