Krokus – Big Rocks (Century Media)

Sadly this isn’t the brand new album of innovative heavy rockin’ songs many would be expecting, or craving … Instead the Swiss purveyor’s present thirteen cover versions of older rock ‘n’ roll classics. Featuring songs from the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Steppenwolf, Queen, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and some more (predictable – for their age) well known favourites, there isn’t a massive amount of point to this record, apart, of course, from hearing a great band play note perfect versions of songs that we all know, and in most case, love. The musical execution is fantastic, but is it really necessary? I just hope that now they’ve got it out of their system, Krokus will get back in the studio and deliver a formidably stunning album of deafening new songs. Mark Freebase
