What do you get when the uber-talented vinyl toy designer, cartoonist son of Luke Skywalker and Matt Groening alumnus, Nathan Hamill, and actor, South Park writer, and Drunk History’s Abraham Lincoln, Eric Filiipkowski pool their collective talent to deliver a scathing, sardonic examination of modern culture and life? You get 2 Dumb Dinos, the comic strip that we all so richly deserve, that’s what.
Irreverent, satirical, and slightly surreal, 2 Dumb Dino’s humour isn’t for everyone, and its scathing exploration of the relationship that exists between the two main, sometimes unlikeable but always strangely relatable characters, Dingus and Scumbag, often hits home a little hard, but that’s the point. It’s a dinopormorphised examination of the world and the incredibly strange times that we live in that uses beautifully simplistic art and clever, always-on-point dialogue and writing to creep under the reader’s skin and hammer the points it’s making, and the ideas that it’s using to make them home.
As I’ve said, it isn’t for everyone, but if you like your humour a little darker and edgier than the vast majority of the population and served up with a side order of Monty Python, The Simpsons, and Family Guy with a touch of Dave Chapelle inspired seasoning, then, like me, you’re going to adore Dingus and Scumbag, and their wonderfully weird prehistoric adventures that don’t really go anywhere. This is the book that I never knew I wanted, but deep down inside, always needed… Tim Cundle
